The Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy has commissioned a new Project 22800 corvette, the Amur.

This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The official ceremony took place with the raising of the St. Andrew’s flag on the Amur small missile ship, which was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev.

It was also noted that this year, the Russian fleet will be replenished with three additional corvettes of this project.

The ship was built at the Zelenodolsk Shipyard between 2017 and 2022, with completion afloat.

Project 22800 is primarily a cruise missile carrier. The ship is equipped with a vertical launcher with eight cells for Kalibr-NK cruise missiles. In addition, Oniks anti-ship missiles and Zircon hypersonic missiles can also be installed.

The artillery armament of the project ships includes a AK-176MA 76.2mm automatic universal gun, two AK-630M six-barrel 30mm guns, and two Kord 12.7mm machine guns.

The ship’s air defense is provided by the ship’s version of the Pantsir-ME anti-aircraft missile and artillery system.

The missile component of the SAM is capable of simultaneously hitting up to four targets at a distance of up to 20 km and at an altitude of up to 15 km.

The artillery unit, consisting of two twin 30mm automatic cannons, fires at targets up to 4 km away and at an altitude of up to 3 km.

Previously, Militarnyi reported that during the celebration of the Russian Navy’s day, two missile ships were spotted in the Caspian Sea that had escaped from the Black Sea.

Both ships were being built at the Zelenodolsk shipyard for the Russian Black Sea Fleet. After being launched, they arrived in the Black Sea for completion and testing.

However, in early May, it became clear that the Russians had withdrawn them from the Black Sea, apparently fearing their loss to Ukrainian missile strikes or kamikaze maritime drones.
