The Russian military uses BARS electronic sights for grenade launchers and mortars in the war against Ukraine.
Information about the equipment is published on the website of DB Bars.
In March, the network published photos of Russian mounted ballistic computers for automatic grenade launchers and mortars, which were allegedly noticed in the use of Russian troops in Ukraine.
However, with a more detailed analysis, it was possible to find out that these photos, judging by the environment, were taken during tests of equipment in late 2023.
However, the developer also assures about the use of its products by invaders in Ukraine. He said that the BARS-30 sighting system for AGS-17/30 automatic grenade launchers had already passed test operation and had been”recommended for application.”
BARS-30 electronic sighting system consists of a unit of sensors located on a special quick-shift mount, as well as a unit of calculation and control with a remote weather station. It is quickly and easily mounted on a grenade launcher.
According to the developers, the ballistic computer of the system is much more accurate than analogues, because its work is not based on empirical artillery range tables, but on a mathematical model of projectile flight in an environment taking into account numerous factors that affect ballistics.
The manufacturer also states that the system is equipped with an algorithm for surveying, which makes it possible to fire at coordinates in the firing mode from indirect firing positions.
For this purpose, only an electronic system can be used without involving standard optical sights like PAG-17, but they can be simultaneously installed and do not interfere with each other. This is confirmed by the released video with shooting at 1,246 meters exclusively with the use of the system.
BARS-30 is the youngest model that has been tested first. In addition to it, a similar BARS-82-120 unified system for the family of 82- and 120-mm mortars is also being developed.
It is known that in 2023 the design bureau tested a ballistic calculator of a mortar electronic sight. Using a 2B24 Deva 82mm smoothbore mortar, a series of rounds were fired at 1,197 meters with a circular error probability of 5 meters.
According to the developers, in addition to the grenade and mortar sights, the plans also include the development of more complex sights for towed and self-propelled howitzers, as well as BMP-3 and BMD-4 100mm guns.
