Russia has placed stationary aerostats in Karelia with special equipment for monitoring abroad with Finland.
This was reported by Russian media.
To control abroad, the FSS-subordinate border service of the Russian Federation uses special aerostats with a radar and optical surveillance station.
“Modern aerostats can monitor the situation near the border from the air for several days. The system provides radar and video surveillance. If offenders appear, their movements will be tracked online,” the report said.
It is noted that drones and aerostats were used by the border service, in particular, to prevent illegal immigration to Finland.
The tool in the photo was identified as a AKV-05 aerostat designed for reconnaissance and surveillance within a radius of 10 kilometers.
According to the published information, the reconnaissance system includes an aerostat, a command vehicle and a special gas filling station on an automobile chassis.
The aerostat itself uses helium. It is able to stay in the air for up to 75 hours, rise to an altitude of 300 to 1000 meters with a load of up to 16 kg and maintain operability with wind gusts of up to 25 m/s.
Static aerostat have become a valuable tool for warfare due to the possibility of being in the air for a long time along with the payload of various purposes.
One of the most popular ways to use such systems is to launch as a high-altitude platform for communication repeaters. They make it possible to increase coverage and, accordingly, the area of operation of radio stations and drones.
It is known that the Russians used aerostats with opto-electronic surveillance sensors to protect military facilities in Syria.
As previously reported, the Polish government signed a contract for the purchase of four Barbara reconnaissance aerostats to monitor borders with Russia and Belarus.
