Eyewitnesses captured on video a targeted strike by a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile on a residential apartment building in Ternopil.
Despite this, the Russian media cynically claim that the impact was allegedly caused by Ukrainian air defense missiles.
The video of the strike was posted on the AirGuardUA telegram channel.
The use of this particular missile was confirmed by Yuriy Ihnat, head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“These were Kh-101 missiles, Kalibr missiles and one ballistic missile launched from the north. Thus, no launches from strategic aviation were recorded,” Ihnat noted.
On the night of November 19, Russia launched massive strikes in several regions of Ukraine – Kharkiv, Lviv, Ternopil and Chernihiv regions.
According to police, the death toll in Ternopil has already reached 20 people.
The Kh-101 strategic cruise missile is designed to minimize its radar signature.
Its development began in 1995, and the missile was put into service in 2013. The missile is carried by Tu-95MSM and Tu-160 strategic bombers.
The missile uses a combined inertial guidance system with optoelectronic correction and activation of the homing head at the final stage of flight.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the wreckage of one of the cruise missiles that hit the nine-story building has already been identified.
“This is an Kh-101 missile manufactured in the fourth quarter of 2025,” the Ukrainian Air Force said.
Russian propaganda is once again using the narrative that the destruction of the building in Ternopil and the deaths of civilians are allegedly “the consequences of Ukrainian air defense,” not the result of Russian missile strikes.
The propagandists spread this narrative even before any video, satellite images, or official data became available – without any evidence, in a preemptive manner.
They do not provide alternative explanations and repeat only the claim that it was “air defense,” even when video evidence of a direct hit by a Russian missile on the house has been released.
A similar incident occurred in July last year, when a Russian Kh-101 missile hit the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kyiv.
