Russia phases out the 2S7 Pion self-propelled guns from its storage base.
Dozens of 203-mm self-propelled guns have already been removed from the storage base at the 94th Arsenal in Omsk.
At the beginning of April 2022, 170 units of 2S7 Pion in storage were documented on satellite images.
There are already 135 units of the 2S7 Pion captured by the Planet satellite on June 2.
As of July 18, when the latest satellite images were made, there were 110 units of 203-mm guns remaining.
It seems some of these 2S7 Pion is not suitable for restoration, taking into account that they have been stored for a very long time (probably with minimal maintenance) on open ground and with significant temperature changes in this region.
Defective 2S7 Pion units can be disassembled for spare parts.
The quality of restoration, which will receive self-propelled guns in Omsk is also unclear.
As previously reported, in June 2020, 130 million rubles were stolen in Omsk during repairing 2S7 Pion guns.
The maintenance and repair of the 2C7 Pion guns during 2016-2018 was provided by the Ost-Vest-Konvers LLC (“O-V-K”), against which the investigation was initiated.
Later, it was decided to upgrade these self-propelled guns, which received a new index – 2С7М and the name “Malka”.
Recently, a 203-mm 2S7M Malka self-propelled gun exploded during a firefight with the Russian military.
