Russian invaders have started using new unknown kamikaze drones against Ukraine.
The National Police of Ukraine reported on this and published photos of the wreckage.
Over the past week alone, the city of Sumy has been attacked five times by these drones with powerful warheads.
It is noted that the Russians are attacking civilians on the streets of the Ukrainian city. As a result, one person died, and three others were injured. The explosions damaged cars and residential buildings.
The police said that the drone is an airplane-type drone painted gray, has two wings arranged in a “stacked” fashion, and an electric motor with a pushing screw in the tail.
It is equipped with a warhead weighing almost 3 kilograms in the nose.
Due to its small size and low-noise electric motor, the drone is difficult to spot from a distance.
Military radio technology expert Serhii Flesh posted additional photos of the remains of this unknown Russian drone and its warhead on Telegram, with inscriptions in Russian. The photo captures that the drone has two vertical keels in its tail.
According to Serhii Flesh, the electronics of this UAV are mass-produced in Russia. This may indicate mass production.
“The UAV is equipped with a 22.2-volt battery with a capacity of 34,000mAh. This battery is similar in capacity to the Zala UAV battery and can fly a 3 kg UAV with a charge of 40-60 kilometers,” Flesh wrote.
After the photo was released to the public, observers speculated that it could be an Iranian Meraj-521 kamikaze drone that can carry a warhead weighing 0.5 to 1 kilogram. It is an almost exact copy of the small American Switchblade 300 loitering munition.
However, a visual comparison of sizes and designs does not confirm this assumption. The Russian drone is at least twice as large and carries a much larger warhead. For example, the Switchblade 300 warhead has an explosive charge equivalent to only a 40-mm grenade.
