At the Russian defense industry exhibition ARMY 2024, the High-Precision Systems holding of the Rostec state corporation showed a new, previously unknown version of the Pantsir air defense system.
The photos were posted online.
The launcher has two types of transport and launch canisters (TLCs). It also lacks two 2A38 30mm guns.
The standard TLC (there are in total 7 on the launcher) belongs to the 95Ya6 or 95Ya6SM, which are typical for this system. The smaller TLCs (in total 20 on the launcher) may belong to the promising 19Ya6 anti-aircraft missile.
The launcher is mounted on a frame that can obviously be mounted on a truck chassis for transportation.
It can be assumed that it can operate both stationary and on a mobile base.
It should be recalled that the Russians have already installed Pantsir systems on the roofs of buildings and even on special towers, so they may have needed a lighter launcher.
Given these factors, it can be concluded that the updated Pantsir may have been designed to perform targeted air defense tasks at short and medium range.
It is likely to be deployed at important industrial, energy and administrative facilities or at special firing positions.
A unit that may be a hardware compartment and/or a generator is placed behind the launcher.
The operators are apparently located in a separate vehicle, or van body. In the background, you can see a KamAZ-53949 “Typhoon-K” armored vehicle, which may also serve as a mobile command post.
Recently, Militarny talked about other developments in the Russian military-industrial complex: the MGT-LB tracked tractor and the D-30 unmanned tracked platform with howitzer.
