Russia reported that an unknown drone had attacked an airfield in the Saratov region.
This regards the airfield in Engels, where strategic bombers which launch missile strikes on Ukraine, are based.
The video featuring the alleged explosion is published on various Russian Telegram channels.
According to preliminary data, on the morning of December 5, an unknown aircraft crashed on the runway of the local airport.
It was followed by an explosion that was recorded by external video surveillance cameras.
The incident occured after 6 a.m. local time.
It is reported that as a result, two aircraft were damaged, although it is not specified which ones.
According to the reports, two people were injured and taken to a local hospital.
Currently, there is no official information about the incident.
Last week it was reported that Russia might be preparing another massive missile attack on the territory of Ukraine. The mass media came to such conclusions due to the fact that the aggressor country concentrated up to two dozen strategic bombers at the Engels-2 military airfield near Saratov, which were involved in periodic missile strikes.
During the week, crews of Russian Tu-95 MS strategic bombers flew in the airspace of the Saratov, Samara, and Orenburg regions, as well as in the airspace of the eastern part of the Russian Federation and the waters of the Barents Sea.
Against the background of the lack of success on the frontline, Russia continues to launch missile attacks on critical infrastructure and civilian facilities in different regions of Ukraine. Russia begins using Soviet-era missiles that are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
The use of Soviet-made cruise missiles equipped with a non-explosive warhead may supposedly be conditioned by several factors and is aimed at exposing Ukraine’s air defense system and its depletion.
