The Russian invaders have set up defense lines in the north of Crimea in the area of the Isthmus of Perekop, which connects the peninsula with mainland Ukraine.

Scheme project reported this with reference to satellite images.

The published photos capturing new fortifications appeared on both sides of the E-105 highway and near Lake Syvash.

In the area of the Armyansk border checkpoint and the Perekop Wall, the invaders set up a double line of trenches.

“In November 2022, the line of trenches was already visible; by March of this year, it had branched out. The lines are connected by trenches, and military equipment positions are visible between them, ” the Scheme’s report says.

According to Ukrainian military intelligence, it is the north of the captured Crimea that the Russians are strengthening the most.

“The infrastructure is maintained in combat readiness: a powerful ground and aviation component is located on the territory of Crimea, combat aircraft – (of them) about ninety, that is sixty, about sixty attack helicopters are located on the territory of Crimea,” – Vadym Skibitsky, Deputy Head of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, commented.

According to him, the invaders have also created a group that is building fortifications and defense lines.

In turn, satellite images that Maxar provided to The Washington Post evidence the Russian invaders constructing a network of trenches and engineering barriers on the peninsula. Fortifications include deep anti-tank ditches, lines of trenches and entrenchments that stretch for hundreds of meters.

Satellite images indicate that Russia has recently built fortifications in the areas of Medvedivka, Vitino, and other parts of occupied Crimea.

The images also show that many Russian defense structures are built along water bodies and create additional obstacles for a potential Ukrainian ground offensive.

The Russian military is also actively installing concrete anti-tank barriers in the shape of pyramids – the so-called “dragon’s teeth.” They should slow down the advance of ground military equipment. The American publication writes that the Russians are using BTM-3 trenching machines to dig trenches.
