The Ukrainian Defense Forces have destroyed a unique Russian BTR-80 that was modified for remote mining. The vehicle carried anti-personnel mines.
The footage of the engagement was posted in the “Marshal” Telegram Channel of Ukrainian police officer Yevhenii Zhukov.
Presumably, the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine were involved in this operation.
First, the armored personnel carrier ran into an anti-tank mine and then was destroyed with a 40mm grenade, dropped from a drone.
The modified BTR-80 received the UMZ launcher (Universal Minelayer System), which was installed on the hull.
UMZ systems are charged with KPOM-2 canisters, which scatter POM-2 anti-personnel mines.
The canister accommodates a unit with four mines in transport position. Once the mine falls on the surface of the ground, the process of bringing them into a combat position begins and lasts 50-60 seconds.
The POM-2 fragmentation anti-personnel mine of tension action for remote mining has a metal hull and 4 sensors in contact with which it is blown up.
The destruction of such armored mobile installations for remote mining should somewhat reduce the threat from new minefields.
The full-scale war unleashed by Russia has led to the formation of the world’s largest minefield on the territory of Ukraine.
The Russian military is installing minefields in the occupied territories of Ukraine without any designation on the ground, which is a deadly danger to people even after the war.
As previously reported, even before the full-scale invasion, mines from Russia joined the case for violating the laws and customs of war.
