Russia has created a special unit that recruits mercenaries in several African countries.
The press service of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine stated that mercenaries are offered $2,000 for signing a contract.
“They promise a monthly allowance of $2,200, medical insurance, and Russian passports for the soldier and his family members,” said the Ukrainian intelligence officers.
A specially created unit under the Russian Ministry of Defense is recruiting Africans to participate in assaults on Ukrainian soil.
“The aggressor state of Russia has significantly intensified its campaign to recruit foreign mercenaries for the war against Ukraine,” the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine stated.
It regards recruiting manpower in Central Africa, particularly in Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, and Uganda.
A large number of citizens of Asian and African countries are now fighting on the side of the Russian army.
Foreign mercenaries are being trained on the territory of the Russian Federation and then sent to Ukraine.
Russian special services are also actively recruiting citizens of Syria, Nepal, and Central Asia.
Africans have also been recruited for the war in Ukraine in previous years. But now, due to the Russians’ heavy losses at the front lines, they have begun to be actively deployed to the combat zone.
Previously, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported that Russia was forming groups of mercenaries to be sent to Africa. Recruitment is also carried out in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, in particular in Crimea.
“Moscow sees the purpose of sending the relevant contingent as expanding its influence in Africa,” the intelligence officers said.
