A Russian soldier who defended a position together with Ukrainian soldiers joined the Russian Volunteer Corps.
This was reported in an interview with Alina Sheremeta by soldiers from the Bars and K2 units who took the Russian prisoner.
They noted that the man compared his commanders’ attitude towards their subordinates with that of Ukrainian commanders towards their soldiers.
Russian soldier Danilo Sychov served in the 242nd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Army.
Sychov is 23 years old. He previously served in Armenia and was later tried for fighting with an officer. To avoid sentencing, he agreed to participate in the war against Ukraine.
As part of an assault group, Sychov attempted to capture a Ukrainian position, but the attack failed.
Before going on the mission, the Russian command assured the assault troops that the position was allegedly empty.
During the battle, he was wounded, and most of his comrades were killed. Seeing the Ukrainian soldiers, he decided to surrender.
After that, the Russian soldier remained at the Ukrainian position for almost two and a half months.
He helped build fortifications, performed maintenance work, and even took part in battles.
As Sychov himself explained, his motivation to stay with the Ukrainian soldiers was the realization that the Russian command had given orders not to take prisoners.
He understood that Russian troops could kill him along with the Ukrainian defenders.
