The United States will withdraw from mediation in the peace process if there is no clear path to peace that Ukraine and Russia support.

This was stated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a press conference during his visit to France.

He also discussed this issue with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and informed him of the proposed peace initiative, which he presented to the Ukrainian delegation in Paris and voiced to the Russian side by phone.

According to Rubio, he and the U.S. President hope that this proposal will be accepted and lead to a lasting and sustainable peace.

At the same time, he emphasizes that if the parties do not accept this proposal or if its implementation is not in good faith, the United States will refuse to mediate in the peace process.

“But we’re not going to keep flying around the world and holding meeting after meeting if there is no progress. So if they are serious about peace – either side or both – we want to help. If they’re not, we’ll just move on. We’ll focus on other issues that are perhaps equally or sometimes more important to the United States,” Marco Rubio said in a commentary to Agence France-Presse.

According to Rubio, peace talks should begin not in a few weeks, but in the coming days. If this does not happen, or if the discussions again reach a deadlock, the United States will not continue to try to resolve the conflict.

It should be noted that the US government has recently repeatedly stated that although Russia declared its desire for a lasting peace with Ukraine, it seeks an end to the war on its own terms, including the refusal to de-occupy Crimea and the four occupied regions.

According to Donald Trump, it is high time for Russia to move from loud statements to real actions that would end this war and demonstrate its true desire for peace on the European continent.

Nevertheless, the Donald Trump administration not only sets time limits for participation in the peace process, but also outlines a framework for European countries to provide general and security support.

Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump had proposed to stop funding NATO’s activities.

The document proposes that the State Department further reduce spending, including on funding for the UN and other international organizations.
