A Romanian volunteer has raised a record-breaking amount for Ukraine after former President Donald Trump announced plans to cut off military aid to the country.

The Defense Romania publication reported on this.

The fundraiser was spearheaded by activist and war correspondent Radu Hossu, dedicated to collecting donations specifically for Ukraine’s military needs.

As part of a fundraiser for reconnaissance drones and electronic warfare systems, the volunteer successfully raised €64,000 within just 46 hours of launching the fundraising, setting a remarkable record for the shortest time since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Citizens of Moldova and Romania contributed the majority of the funds. Within just 36 hours of launching the fundraiser, 897 people donated, with the average contribution amounting to approximately €42.

Defense Romania emphasized in its article, ‘Even from a selfish, if not moral, standpoint, it is crucial for us, for Romanians, and for our future, that Romania continues to support Ukraine within Europe. The alternative is the fall of Ukraine, followed by the Republic of Moldova. Without the United States, Russia would be emboldened to act freely in the Baltic states and even in Romania. If you don’t care about the people of Ukraine but care about your children, Ukraine MUST stand strong to prevent this from happening.’

According to Hossu, the amount raised is not the final amount, and if the pace of the new fundraising continues at the same level, it will be possible to raise €1 million in two weeks.

The volunteer also noted that the main condition of the collection was to save lives, not to take them, so the funds raised would be used for non-lethal means.

Hossu stated, ‘One of the conditions I set was that the funds should be used exclusively for purchasing equipment that saves lives, not takes them. This includes reconnaissance drones and electronic warfare (EW) systems that disrupt Russian kamikaze drones, thereby protecting Ukrainian troops and saving lives on the front lines.’

It is worth noting that the volunteer’s support started in August 2022 and continues to this day. During this time, Radu Hossa has managed to raise over €800,000.

Czech volunteers also make an important contribution to supporting Ukraine, raising funds to purchase a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter for the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine as part of the Dárek pro Putina initiative.

The volunteers managed to raise a total of just over CZK 72 million (€2.87 million) out of the 70 million needed.
