The Romanian Parliament supported the creation of a training center for Ukrainian marines.

This happened at the plenary session on October 1. Thus, the parliamentarians approved the request of President Klaus Iohannis.

233 Romanian MPs supported the decision, 18 voted against it, and another 25 abstained, Agerpres reports.

In his address to the Parliament, Iohannis wrote that recent developments in the war waged by Russia against Ukraine have made it necessary to strengthen and diversify the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It was suggested that the center be created within the Ukraine Defense Contact Group framework in the Ramstein format to strengthen Ukraine’s maritime capabilities.

Thus, Romania will support the training of Ukrainian marines within its capabilities.

The proposed plan assumes that the center will operate for two years. At the same time, Romania reserves the right to withdraw from the commitment at any time during the training process or at the end of the agreed period.

The center will be supported by contributions from the international community. In particular, the UK will provide full funding for the initial stage of its development.

Back in June, it was announced that Romania would finance the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets at the Feteşti air base.

The country will use the Ministry of Defense budget to cover the costs incurred by Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel while staying at the Romanian air base.

The center was set up jointly with other allies and Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of these U.S. fighter jets. It meets NATO pilots’ training requirements.

Thus, Romania will join the Aviation Coalition, which supports training Ukrainian pilots and ground personnel and transferring modern multifunctional fighter jets as part of military assistance.
