Romania could become a hub for sending Western troops to Ukraine.

Romania’s interim president, Ilies Boloian, noted that it required a certain analysis.

“As for supporting Ukraine, at the consultations that took place, we expressed our country’s readiness to continue supporting this country, because it is not just support for the victim before the aggressor, which is a matter of principle, but, in fact, it is support for the security of our country,” Boloian said.

At the same time, he said that it was too early to discuss sending Romanian troops to Ukraine, as there was no peace agreement.
In addition, there is no parliamentary support for such a step.

“We could be a center for the transit of these troops, and we can analyze it. In my opinion, we should analyze things in a cool headed manner, but not cause unreasonable concerns, especially during the election period (referring to the presidential elections in Romania – ed.),” Boloian said.

Back in February 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he had been discussing the possibility of sending Western ground troops to Ukraine. However, European countries did not reach a consensus at that time.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has declared his readiness to deploy British troops to Ukraine to ensure the implementation of any peace agreement.

The Swedish government also does not rule out the possibility of sending peacekeepers to Ukraine after Russia’s war against Ukraine ends.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that it was too early to talk about sending European peacekeepers to Ukraine, as the active phase of the war was ongoing.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Poland was not considering sending its own soldiers to Ukraine for a peacekeeping mission.

The Washington Post wrote that European states that supported the idea of deploying their military to Ukraine to monitor a potential ceasefire were discussing sending 25-30 000 troops.
