At the Robotics Centre booth, a new hybrid drone called BAAZ was presented, combining the advantages of a multicopter and an airplane.

This was reported to Militarnyi by a company representative at the World Defense Show 2026 defense exhibition, which is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Thanks to this design, the device does not require special runways or complex launch systems.

BAAZ characteristics

The drone uses electric motors for vertical maneuvers and an internal combustion engine for horizontal flight. The system runs on a mixture of 87 octane gasoline and special lubricant in a 40:1 ratio.

One of the key advantages of the complex is the ability to recharge the batteries directly during flight using an on-board generator. In just 20 minutes of normal engine operation, the battery charge level is restored to 100%. Between flights, the aircraft only needs to be quickly refueled, which significantly reduces the time needed to prepare for the next mission.

The drone can stay in the air for 6 to 7 hours, depending on the configuration and operating conditions. The cruising speed is usually between 80 and 100 km/h, although the aircraft is capable of reaching higher speeds.

The maximum take-off weight of the BAAZ system is 16 kg, with 5 kg accounted for by payload and fuel. The drone has a wingspan of 2717 mm and a total length of 1842 mm.

The main purpose of the complex is to conduct reconnaissance and surveillance over long distances. To this end, it is fully integrated with an HD45 EO/IR camera with day and thermal channels, or a NextVision Raptor system with 80x zoom.

In addition to standard optics, the drone can be equipped with specialized cameras for high-precision 3D mapping of the terrain. The developers are also open to installing other types of payloads, such as radars or radio reconnaissance systems.

The default communication system is based on Persistent Systems MPU5, but the device is also compatible with other solutions, such as DTC or Silvus.

“But we are open to considering Ukrainian-made systems,” the representative said.

When disassembled, the entire device fits into a 48x20x17-inch Pelican ISP protective case.
