British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak requested an audit of the aid provided to Ukraine by the United Kingdom and how it affected the hostilities.
The BBC reported this with reference to its own sources in the British government.
Senior figures fear Rishi Sunak might be taking overly cautious in providing assistance to Ukraine.
The publication’s source shared that the audit, known as a data-driven assessment, would be designed to assess exactly how the aid provided is reflected in the course of the war.
“This is about looking at what we have put in, what we have got out,” the BBC source emphasized.
Another source compared the desire to conduct such an audit with an information panel of stock market quotations.
At the same time, the Prime Minister’s office emphasized that Great Britain’s support for Ukraine is unwavering.
It is emphasized that the request has raised alarm bells in some corners of Whitehall as military chiefs mentioned that weapons supplies to Ukraine might prove decisive in the winter months ahead.
“Wars aren’t won [by dashboards]. Wars are won on instinct,” the publication source emphasized.
Ukraine is aware of the debate within British political circles, and they keep in touch with the government of the United Kingdom.
“President Zelensky has sensed what is going on. So he has been talking to Rishi (Sunak). He is trying to inspire him, saying the UK are the great liberators, the great fighters. We need you,” the BBC source said.
It is noted that the proposed assessment comes at a crucial point in the conflict when the main way to advance is to increase the supply of weapons.
It is emphasized that Russia is running out of reserves, and Ukraine can only resupply reserves with the help of partners.
BBC sources report that the military leadership is determined to help Ukraine.
At the same time, they pay attention to the cautious position of the USA and fear that the caution of the White House might be transferred to the British government.
As previously reported, the British Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace stated that London would be open to supplying Kyiv with longer-range weapons systems if Russia continues to strike civilian infrastructure.
