The German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with new long-range shells.
Armin Papperger, Rheinmetall CEO, said that Rheinmetall will hand over prototypes of shells with a range of 100 km.
The concern is currently focused, in particular, on the production of artillery ammunition.
This year, the Düsseldorf-based company intends to supply hundreds of thousands of shells to Ukraine.
Among other things, prototypes of artillery shells with a range of 100 kilometers, according to the article about Papperger’s meeting with investors at the Düsseldorf Business Club.
Russia fires a large amount of artillery ammunition. Ukraine, on the other hand, can only respond to these attacks in a limited way due to a lack of ammunition.
“The Western world is not ready for a conventional war,” emphasizes Papperger.
Before the full-scale Russian invasion, Rheinmetall’s capacity was about 70,000 shells a year. This year, the company will produce 700,000. In the medium term, it should be 1.1 million per year.
As previously reported, Ukraine will receive 225 German high-precision Vulcano rounds.
These are precision artillery rounds that can destroy targets at a distance of up to 70-80 km.
It is worth noting that Europe has long been developing 155-mm long-range artillery shells that can hit targets over 100 kilometers away.
Boeing and Nammo successfully test-fired a Ramjet 155 ramjet-powered artillery projectile. In 2019, Nammo representatives stated that with their engine, the ammunition will have a maximum range of approximately 150 kilometers.
