The German defense company Rheinmetall expects to sell more than 1,000 Skyranger air defense systems, with up to 650 potentially being purchased for the Bundeswehr.
Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger announced this during a conference call with analysts, Hartpunkt reports.
The Skyranger procurement is part of the large-scale Arminius program, which includes the delivery of various Boxer combat vehicle variants worth around €40 billion. About €22 billion of that amount could go to Rheinmetall.
Back in July 2025, sources told the publication that the Bundeswehr was planning to purchase 500–600 Skyranger combat vehicles to strengthen its air defense capabilities.
The Skyranger systems can be integrated onto various platforms. According to Papperger, Denmark, Austria, and several other European countries have also shown interest in them.
Another system from Rheinmetall – the Skynex – is already being successfully used in Ukraine. It is effective not only against drones but also for intercepting missiles, although the specific missile types are not specified.
Because Skynex is related to the Skyranger, the company expects that these combat vehicles will also demonstrate high effectiveness under real-combat conditions.
