The German company Rheinmetall has handed over a prototype of the Skyranger 30 anti-aircraft system to the Bundeswehr.
This is reported on the company’s official website.
The prototype was handed over at the end of January 2025 for army tests to confirm its performance.
The company is currently training German specialists, who will begin the corresponding stage of testing in the spring. This will create the possibility to assess the system’s compliance with the requirements and start preparing new calculations.
Delivery of production models is expected in late 2027 and early 2028.
As part of the €595 million contract signed in February 2024, the Bundeswehr placed an order for the production of one prototype and 18 production models for the troops.
Additionally, the contract has an option to order 30 additional systems, if the appropriate budget is allocated by the Ministry of Defense.
The German version of the system will be deployed on the familiar Boxer armored personnel carrier base, which will unify a significant part of the components and facilitate their maintenance.
At the same time, an anti-aircraft module developed by the Swiss company Rheinmetall Air Defense with a KCE gun (30 x 173), a range of about 3000 meters and a rate of fire of 1200 rounds per minute will be used.
The gun will use specially designed remote-fuzed shells to effectively combat drones.
Additionally, to detect small airborne targets, the Skyranger 30 uses an AMMR multi-target radar operating in the S-band. In total, the vehicle has five antennas that provide 360-degree coverage.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the Dutch Ministry of Defense was ordering 22 mobile air defense systems designed to combat drones.
The main weapon of the system will be the Swiss Skyranger 30 anti-aircraft module.
