The reactivated 22nd Mechanized Brigade has been armed with Western and Ukrainian modernized armored vehicles.
This military unit of mechanized infantry of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was acting in 1992 – 2003.
After the start of the 2022 Russian invasion, the brigade was deployed to full strength.
The soldiers of the brigade received new sleeve insignia, which depict a bison on a red and black shield.
The brigade’s tankers were armed with restored Т-72B and Т-72АМТ main battle tanks.
The first batch of Ukrainian modernized T-72AMT tanks entered service with the army in February 2021.
Modernization of tanks is carried out by the state enterprise Kyiv Armored Plant.
The Т-72АМТ tank has improved technical characteristics, has a more powerful engine ― 840 horsepower, improved undercarriage ― tracks from the Т-80 tank.
Improved sighting devices and Nizh explosive reactive armour.
The Brigade also received infantry fighting vehicles, Western small arms, and reconnaissance drones.
The Brigade is also equipped with American HMMWVs that help it stay mobile. Currently, soldiers of the 22nd Mechanized Brigade are undergoing intensive training for hostilities.
Recall that before the start of a full-scale invasion, more than three hundred HMMWVs were in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, over the year, the fleet of these vehicles grew from several hundred to two thousand.
