The drone operators of the Rarog Battalion from the 24th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 4 Russian T-62 tanks in the Bakhmut sector.
The video was posted by the battalion’s press service on social media.
In addition to the enemy tanks, three BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles were destroyed during the day.
The Ukrainian defenders used FPV drones with HEAT warheads to destroy the invaders’ equipment.
To assault Ukrainian positions in this section of the frontline in the Donetsk region, the Russians engaged tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.
However, Ukrainian Defense Forces soldiers halted the enemy’s advance and first damaged and immobilized the armored vehicles.
After that, drone operators used strike drones to finish off tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.
The enemy vehicles, including T-62 tanks, were equipped with anti-drone “grills” and hinged ERA. Therefore, judging by the video, several FPVs had to be used to destroy one vehicle.
The first reports of Russian T-62M and T-62MV tanks being sent to Ukraine appeared in May 2022.
The combat vehicles were equipped with DIY-style “protection” in the form of grilles mounted above the top of the turret.
Until recently, T-62 tanks were in storage in Russia, but during the fighting in Ukraine, the invaders lost a lot of equipment, so the aggressor army mentioned the obsolete tanks. They were originally intended to be used to equip reserve battalion tactical groups that were being formed to be sent to war against Ukraine.
The first T-62 trophy tanks were captured by the Ukrainian Defense Forces back in September 2022. Some of the combat vehicles are used to train tank crews. In addition, the soldiers of the 19th Mykolaiv Regiment of the National Guard have modified a trophy T-62M for use in combat operations.
