President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the signing of a “historic agreement” with France to strengthen Ukraine’s air capabilities.
He stated this in a morning address.
According to Zelensky, the “historic agreement” with France to bolster combat aviation and reinforce the protection of Ukrainian airspace will be signed on Monday, November 17.
On that day, the President of Ukraine is expected in Paris, where he will be received by President of France Emmanuel Macron.
“The content of the visit is solid. It is what truly helps Ukraine defend itself and achieve our goals,” he added.
Recent reports suggest that Ukraine may expand its fleet with Rafale fighter jets. Although this has not been officially confirmed, the manufacturer has expressed readiness to cooperate.
It remains unclear how many aircraft Ukraine could receive and when deliveries might begin.
On October 28, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is considering another European fighter jet to strengthen its Air Force.
“I am holding three parallel discussions on aircraft — with the Swedes, the French, and the Americans,” he said, noting that three platforms have been identified for modernizing the combat aircraft fleet: the F-16, Gripen, and Rafale.
It was also reported in 2021 that French President Emmanuel Macron intended to offer Rafale fighter jets to Ukraine to replace its Soviet-era MiG-29s during a visit to Kyiv.
The matter later went quiet, and it is unclear whether the sides continued work on earlier proposals.
