European company Valkyrie Dynamics has unveiled a miniature active radar homing head for interceptor drones.

The presentation for the Ukrainian military took place as part of an event organized by Ukrainian and Finnish accelerators Defence Builder and 17Tech, which was attended by a correspondent of Militarnyi.

According to the developers, it can sometimes be very difficult to determine the location of a drone in difficult weather conditions. Therefore, they have created an affordable solution that will allow enemy drones to be destroyed reliably in all weather conditions.

The Vega system, which costs about 20,000 hryvnias and functions as an onboard guidance and targeting system, uses a miniature radar to guide interceptor drones to their target.

According to the developers, their system can detect Mavic-type drones from a distance of up to 100 meters with high accuracy and selectivity. The system is capable of distinguishing drones from birds and leaves. In addition, the radar can detect and distinguish ground objects such as cars and even people.

The radar itself weighs less than 200 g and consumes 5W of electrical power. At the same time, it allows not only to detect a target, but also to measure the distance to it with an accuracy of several centimeters, while tracking up to 25 targets.

After detecting a target, the system highlights it and displays data about it, including distance, azimuth, vertical angle, and speed, directly on the screen of the interceptor drone operator.

The developers said that although they are an international team, they work and create their product in Ukraine, where their laboratory is located.

“We are ready to visit the teams, conduct tests with customers, and if there is a need for further development, we will be able to do it. We adapt the product to the needs of the end user,” they emphasized.

Currently, Valkyrie Dynamics is seeking to collaborate and receive feedback from Ukrainian drone interception units, as they can provide reliable information about the situation on the ground.

In particular, the developers are seeking cooperation and assistance in testing the system to counter larger drones, especially Shahed-type strike drones.

As a reminder, TAF Industries and SKYRIPER have announced preparations for the launch of mass production of the new Ukrainian OCTOPUS interceptor drone.
