German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems will open an R&D center in Ukraine and plans to recruit employees.
Oleksandr Berezhnyi, Country Chief Operational Officer of the company, stated this in a commentary to DOU.
According to DOU, this spring Quantum Systems opened a Service, Support, Training and Logistics Center (SSTLC) in Ukraine.
“Vector drone operators have been trained at this facility, and the Center has also become a new location for repairs and purchase of spare parts,” the statement said.
The Vector UAV, developed by Quantum Systems, can take off and land vertically, has a low-noise engine, and uses encrypted IP communication to transmit a video stream. The company cooperates with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine: a batch of such drones has already been delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (exact numbers are classified).
The day before, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine reported that Quantum Systems had joined the Diia.Сity space.
“The company has recently responded to the Ukrainian government’s call to establish production in Ukraine. Therefore, residency in Diia.City will help the company to create capacities in Ukraine for the production of drones and launch an R&D center,” the ministry explained.
According to Berezhnyi, a significant part of the work of the Ukrainian SSTLC Center since April 2023 has been related to R&D, so the company decided to create a separate department for development and research.
The Ukrainian R&D unit will grow, combining software and hardware engineering.
“For security reasons, I cannot disclose the geographical location of the R&D unit, but it will be based at the SSTLC Center. I also can’t tell you the exact number of drone operators we have already trained, because in this way we will help the enemy understand how many drones are in operation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, I will note that we are doing this very quickly and it regards several dozen operators every month,” he added.
The company’s Country Chief Operating Officer clarified that in 2024, Ukraine will produce spare parts for Vector drones, and in 2025, they plan to fully assemble these UAVs.
“To realize these plans, we have rented a space of several thousand square meters for our production, research and development team. We plan to have about 40 specialists working on this project,” he said.
