Quantum Systems is developing three versions of the Sparta carrier drone for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Oleksandr Berezhnyi, Managing Director of Quantum Systems in Ukraine, discussed this in an interview with Militarnyi.
He noted that the drone is at TRL 5, a stage at which the technology has already been tested under conditions close to real-world scenarios.
The project has been divided into several products: Sparta ASR, Sparta Light, and Sparta Heavy.
The company aims to ensure the drone can remain airborne for up to 8 hours.
“It will be able to carry up to 9 kg of payload: FPV drones, interceptors, ammunition, or reconnaissance modules,” Berezhny shared.
The first version to be delivered to the Defense Forces will be the Sparta ASR, which cannot carry FPV drones.
This drone is equipped with special sensors designed to collect reconnaissance data.
“Combat operations with the Defense Forces will begin this summer, with the prospect of a contract in August–September,” Berezhny noted.
Next will be the Sparta Light version, which will be able to carry additional payloads, including FPV drones.
“I expect the Light version to appear a month or two after the reconnaissance version,” Berezhny added.
Next, the company plans to release a third version—the Sparta Heavy. Its release is expected at the end of the year or early next year.
Last year, it was reported that the prototype has a flight duration of six to eight hours and a range of up to 200 km.
The system’s maximum takeoff weight, including payload, is 23 kg, of which approximately 8 kg is the payload itself.
Sparta is equipped with payload mounting points on both sides of the wing. This approach allows for a significant increase in the flight range of FPV drones.
Thus, Sparta can serve as both a base drone and a reconnaissance platform.
