Production of Ukrainian Bohdana Self-Propelled Artillery System to Start in Poland

Poland is preparing to launch production of the Ukrainian 155 mm 2S22 Bohdana wheeled self-propelled artillery system.

This was reported by sources to the Polish publication Business Insider Polska.

The relevant joint venture PK MIL SA was established between the Polish company Ponar Wadowice and the Ukrainian Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Building Plant, which develops and manufactures artillery systems.

The company was founded in October 2025 and is currently completing the formal procedures to start weapons production in Poland.

Ponar Wadowice owns 51% of the shares in the joint venture.

Production in Poland opens up wide opportunities for exporting Bohdana to other countries, which is not possible for weapons manufactured in Ukraine.

It is expected that both the Polish armed forces and the armies of other European countries will be able to obtain self-propelled howitzers.

According to the publication, more than 600 Ukrainian Bohdana artillery systems have already been manufactured and are actively used on the battlefield.

Ponar Wadowice, which has experience in manufacturing components for the defense industry, such as hydraulic systems for Krab howitzers and Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles, will manufacture key parts for Polish production.

The joint venture PK MIL SA plans to supply howitzers to both the Polish army and foreign customers.

Thanks to optimized production costs and the experience of its Ukrainian partners, the company plans to offer a competitive price, which could be an important factor for potential buyers when choosing a system. Last year, the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Building Plant registered an international patent for the 2S22 self-propelled artillery system, Bohdana.

Bohdana may become an alternative to replace outdated post-Soviet howitzers that remain in service with some armies. Production in Poland not only strengthens the defense capabilities of allies, but also opens up prospects for the development of joint defense technologies between Poland and Ukraine.
