Portugal will allocate €220 million in military aid to Ukraine in 2025.
The Portuguese government reported on this.
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced an increase in military aid at the NATO summit in Washington.
In addition to the increase in military assistance for 2025, the government announced an increase in this year’s military aid to €220 million.
According to the Minister, the country’s government has agreed to allocate an additional €95 million to the previously approved €126 million in military aid that was planned for 2024.
“This is also a significant financial contribution to the international coalition around military, humanitarian, political, and economic support for Ukraine,” the Prime Minister said.
Separately, the Minister confirmed to NATO allies that Portugal will increase military spending on defense to 2% of GDP.
It should be noted that the increase in military aid came after Ukraine and Portugal signed a security agreement.
Zelensky and the Portuguese Prime Minister signed the 10-year Ukraine-Portugal agreement at the latter’s official residence in Lisbon.
After signing the agreement, Luís Montenegro announced at a press conference that Portugal had already provided Ukraine with 1,000 tons of military aid since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Portuguese government allocated €100 million to the Czech initiative to purchase artillery shells for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Thus, Portugal joined other countries already supporting the Czech Republic’s initiative to jointly purchase and quickly deliver large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine.
