Portugal has begun negotiations with the Turkish Baykar about the purchase of drones.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said this during a press conference with Portuguese Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho.
He notes that Turkey sees significant potential in defense cooperation with Portugal.
“Today we agreed to encourage our companies to invest together. We discussed cooperation in the defense industry. I also learned that negotiations between Baykar and Portugal have started,” Çavuşoğlu said.
Previously, 28 countries have already concluded contracts with Baykar for the purchase of Bayraktar TB2 drones, and 5 countries – for the purchase of Akinci.
Poland became the first European country to export Bayraktar TB2. Recently, Warsaw has received the first systems.
At the same time, according to the Savunma Sanayist publication, a number of European countries, in particular Italy, are negotiating the purchase of Turkish drones.
The day before, the Turkish Baykar company handed over two more Bayraktar ТB2 UAVs to Ukraine free of charge.
