Poland has deployed 50 soldiers to Lithuania to join the search for missing American soldiers.
Polish Vice Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh shared that the 16th Engineer Regiment with equipment is being deployed.
“Our army will also send 15 units of equipment, including three technical support vehicles, a medical support vehicle, engineering equipment for earthworks, trucks, and high-powered pumps,” Kosinyak-Kamysh reported.
The Polish military will also include divers.
On March 25, at 16:45, it was reported that American soldiers and one armored vehicle went missing during the exercise.
The next day, an M88 Hercules tracked armored repair and recovery vehicle was discovered at a depth of about 5 meters in the marshland of the Pabrade training ground.
However, four US Army soldiers went missing.
The soldiers, all from the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, were conducting a routine tactical exercise at the time of the incident.
The search and rescue operation has been going on for several days now, involving powerful slurry pumps, cranes, more than 30 tons of gravel, and engineers from the US Army.
The operation is complicated by difficult terrain conditions, where the area is very wet and marshy, which does not allow the use of heavy equipment without engineering improvements.
The process of draining the area is progressing slowly due to constant groundwater seepage.
The US Army continues to coordinate the deployment of additional experts and equipment, including a specialized diving team from the US Navy’s CTF68 team.
