Ukrainian artillery units are using Polish Jelcz P882D53 trucks to transport artillery ammunition, according to a video released by the 26th Artillery Brigade and analyzed by Defence24.
These trucks are rarely seen on camera, making their recent appearance noteworthy.
According to reports, the Jelcz P882D53 vehicles were supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces alongside Krab self-propelled howitzers.
The OSINT group ORYX has confirmed that Ukrainian forces lost at least two Jelcz P882D53 trucks in April and May 2023.
The first truck was destroyed by a kamikaze drone while loading ammunition into a Krab howitzer. The circumstances of the second loss remain unknown.
It is quite possible that both reported incidents involve the same vehicle, based on similar weather conditions and surroundings in available images.
The Artillery Ammunition Vehicle (Artyleryjski Wóz Amunicyjny) is built on the Jelcz P882D53 chassis and is designed to transport and handle 120 mm and 155 mm artillery shells.
In addition to transporting ammunition, the Jelcz P882D53 features a self-loading system that enables automated loading and unloading.
The truck is powered by a 6-cylinder Iveco Cursor 13 turbodiesel engine, delivering 530 hp (397 kW).
The armored cabin, designed for a two-person crew, provides ballistic protection compliant with STANAG 4569 Level 1 standards.
For self-defense, the vehicle can be equipped with a UKM-2000 machine gun mounted on a roof-mounted rotating platform. It is also fitted with the Fonet communication system from WB Group for internal and external communications.
