Poland has already handed over eight MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine and is preparing six more.
Polish President Andrzej Duda announced this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Warsaw.
In recent months, four MiG-29s were handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukraine recently received four more MiG-29s. The exact dates of transactions are not reported for security reasons.
“We are ready, and I told Mr. President (Volodymyr Zelensky – ed.) about this to hand over six more that are currently being prepared for this,” Andrzej Duda said.
The Polish President also said that the country still has MiG-29 fighter jets, which were modernized in accordance with NATO standards and are now involved in the NATO Air Policing mission.
According to him, these fighter jets are still needed by the Polish side.
At the same time, he emphasized that with the arrival of previously ordered aircraft, such as the South Korean FA-50 and the American F-35, the country might consider transferring these MiGs to Ukraine in the future.
Duda also noted that transferring these MiG-29s, used in the NATO mission, to Ukraine requires the consent of the allies.
“After the modernization, they have equipment that was transferred from the US. There is a NATO connection. And formalities must be observed in connection with this,” he said.
In total, Poland and Slovakia plan to transfer 33 MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine: 20 of them are to be received by Kyiv from Warsaw and 13 from Bratislava.
Previously, Slovakia transferred the first MiG-29 fighter jets to the Ukrainian Air Force. Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad’ reported that four aircraft had arrived in Ukraine.
