Poland to Launch Perun Suborbital Rocket from Sea Platform

The Polish suborbital rocket Perun is set to be launched from a sea platform in the North Sea, near the coast of Denmark.

According to Space24.pl, the launch is planned for the second half of 2026.

On July 16, the Polish space company SpaceForest announced the signing of an agreement with EuroSpaceport, a modern spaceport supported by the European Space Agency (ESA). The agreement covers the first international mission of the Polish suborbital rocket Perun.

The mission will focus on verifying launch procedures in accordance with international standards for suborbital rockets.

Perun will carry a 50-kilogram payload consisting of scientific and technological experiments developed by universities, research institutes, and commercial partners.

The test flight also aims, among other objectives, to verify the thrust vector control system, the recovery system, the telecommunications infrastructure, and the SF-1000 rocket engine.

The rocket is being developed with support from the European Space Agency under the Boost! program, through which SpaceForest received €2.4 million.

Perun Rocket

To date, SpaceForest has conducted two suborbital test flights of its rocket. In June 2023, Perun reached an altitude of 22 km, and in October, 12 km. All tests were executed at the Polish Air Force Central Training Ground in Ustka.

The company’s current primary aim is to cross the Kármán line (100 km above sea level) and reach an altitude of 150 km.

Perun has a wide range of potential applications that can contribute to the advancement of science, education, and the commercial sector.

Poland previously tested a rocket with a 300 mm diameter engine as part of a project to develop a reusable suborbital launch system. The development is being carried out by the Polish Military Institute of Armament Technology (WITU).
