The Polish government has offered Ukraine an intergovernmental loan of more than €100 million for the purchase and repair of equipment.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that the offer pertains to equipment that can be repaired at Polish defense companies.

“The finance ministers have already agreed on the loan. The loan can be used at any time,” Sikorski emphasized.

According to the head of Polish diplomacy, “to date, Poland has handed over about 400 T-72, PT-92 and Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, which are defending Ukraine’s eastern borders, and some of them are involved in operations in the Kursk region.”

Warsaw also handed over nearly 50 Krab self-propelled tracked gun-howitzers, Piorun man-portable air defense systems, and air defense systems to Ukraine.

Radosław Sikorski also said that the Polish government promised to allocate €100 million for the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to him, half of the funds will be provided this year. Warsaw will allocate the remaining €50 million in 2025.

Sikorski also admitted that Poland had delayed a payment to the fund for the purchase of ammunition for the Armed Forces of Ukraine because the official responsible for coordinating this process was detained under an international arrest warrant.

“But we will solve this problem, and the transfer of funds will take place this year,” the minister assured.

The day before, the media reported that Poland is the only country that has promised to allocate funding for the Czech initiative to purchase shells for Ukraine, but has not yet done so.

The first batches of shells from the Czech initiative were delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in mid-July. Later, it became known that the Czech Republic also intends to use part of the interest earned from frozen Russian assets to purchase ammunition for Ukraine.

As of August, 18 countries have joined the Czech initiative to search for and purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian Defense Forces outside the European Union.
