The Polish Armaments Agency has signed a contract to deliver a satellite observation system under the MikroSAR program.

The Space24 media reported on this.

According to the terms of the agreement, ICEYE Polska will be responsible for delivering three satellites equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

Meanwhile, Military Aviation Works No. 1 will provide the ground segment, including both stationary and mobile control stations.

The contract also includes an option to purchase three additional satellites and an extra mobile ground segment. The total value of the agreement is PLN 860 million.

The first satellite launch is scheduled for October 2025, with the remaining launches planned for 2026. The satellites will be placed into a sun-synchronous orbit, allowing for the acquisition of high-quality images regardless of weather conditions or time of day.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that this agreement will offer the country full independence in radar surveillance and reconnaissance. He believes it is an important step toward strengthening national security and developing domestic defense capabilities.

Rafał Modrzewski, CEO of ICEYE Polska, emphasized that Poland is joining a small group of countries that have their own Earth observation capabilities.

He also noted that SAR technology is particularly valuable for countries with variable weather, as it allows for image acquisition regardless of cloud cover or lighting conditions.

Militarnyi previously reported that German startup Reflex Aerospace and American company Umbra plan to develop an intelligence satellite for European clients.

The developed satellite is expected to be used for radar reconnaissance based on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology and will be made available to European customers.

The work distribution for the project will be structured so that the American company Umbra will take responsibility for developing radar reconnaissance systems designed explicitly for satellite deployment.
