Poland has signed a second contract for the supply of additional Homar-K missile systems, as well as KTSSM ballistic missiles with a range of 290 km.
The news was published on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Poland.
On April 25, an agreement was signed in the Republic of Korea in the presence of Secretary of State Paweł Bejda to purchase new HOMAR-K launchers for the Polish Armed Forces in addition to the 218 ordered at the end of 2022.
The Polish Arms Agency and Korean company Hanwha Aerospace have signed a $1.6 billion deal to supply 72 artillery units of the HOMAR-K multiple rocket launchers and services for their installation on the Polish Jelcz 882.57 8×8 chassis.
The contract also provides for the supply of several thousand high-precision missiles with a range of 80 km. These are transport and launch containers for six 239-mm CGR080 guided missiles with a monoblock penetrating and cluster warhead.
There are also reports of an order for an unknown number of ballistic missiles for the 290 km range system. In this class, only the KTSSM (Ure-2) missile, which has been under development since 2022 and completed certification tests last May, is available for installation.
The Polish defense publication Defence24 also reports that within this agreement, it is planned to integrate 122mm unguided rockets (Soviet-type) in transport and launch containers developed by WZL-2.
Deliveries for the ordered missile systems and ammunition are scheduled for 2026-2029.
A day earlier, on April 24, 2024, the Homar-K MRL launched the KTSSM in the presence of Polish Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Bejda and government officials. The tactical missile successfully hit the target after flying for more than 200 seconds.
The report notes that one of the terms of the agreement is also the transfer of technology covering the maintenance of modules and the production of spare parts in Poland.
Poland also expects to build industrial capacity to manufacture launchers and mass-produce CGR-080 239mm missiles.
The Polish Homar-K missile system is developed on the basis of the already existing South Korean K239 Chunmoo multiple-launch rocket system. Each launcher carries two containers that can be equipped with missiles of different caliber (up to 607mm).
