Poland has installed the first component of its new counter-drone system along the border with Belarus.
According to Polish broadcaster RMF24, a radar has been mounted on an observation tower more than 70 meters high near the town of Krynki in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The radar is expected to become operational in January.
Additional system components will later be installed on four other observation towers that have already been constructed.
In its initial phase, the system will be used to detect, locate, and track objects approaching from the east.
Meanwhile, the system will also be able to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles that pose a threat.
Data from the system will be available in Białystok, at the monitoring center of the electronic border barrier with Belarus, as well as at border guard posts.
It is emphasized that the new counter-drone system has been fully developed and manufactured by Polish companies.
In December, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency extended restrictions on the use of part of the airspace along the border with Ukraine and Belarus until March 9, 2026.
The air traffic restrictions were introduced after Russian Gerbera drones crossed into Polish airspace on September 10.
According to available information, more than 20 Russian drones entered Poland at that time via the territory of Belarus and Ukraine.
Later that day, drones and their fragments began to be found across the country. One of them fell on the territory of a Territorial Defense Forces military unit in Grójec County, near Warsaw.
