On August 26, 2022, the Ministry of Defense of Poland signed a contract with Korean companies for the purchase of K9 tanks and tracked K9 155mm self-propelled guns.
This is reported by the official channels of the Polish Ministry of Defense.
The tank agreement with Hyundai Rotem provides for the supply of 180 K2 Black Panther tanks within 2022-2025 years. Its cost is $3.4 billion.
The contract with Hanwha Defense is designed for 2022-2026, for which 212 K9 Thunder ACS (in version K9A1) should arrive. The agreement amounts to $2.4 billion.
Poland and Korean companies agreed to include training, service and ammunition in the package.
The agreements were signed on the territory of the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division in the city of Morong. This is the composition that the first 10 K2 tanks should enter. Today, the Division has Т-72 tank in service.
Instead, the first self-propelled guns will go to the 11th Masurian Artillery Regiment. Currently, the military unit operates Krab and DANA ACS, as well as Grad and Langusta MLRS.
Earlier Poland stated that the country will simultaneously produce the Krab self-propelled guns and a licensed version of the K9PL.
The framework agreement between Poland and the Republic of Korea provides for the prospect of purchasing 1,000 tanks and 672 howitzers.
