Nine people were arrested in Poland on suspicion of working for Russian special services and committing a series of sabotage acts in the country.
Polish Prime Minister Tusk announced this on TVN24.
Nine suspects have been arrested and charged with directly participating in sabotage on the territory of Poland on the instructions of Russian services.
The Polish Prime Minister emphasized that the case concerns several European countries – Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland. The Polish Prime Minister added that such signals are also coming from Sweden.
“We have nine arrested suspects who have been charged with directly participating in acts of sabotage in Poland on behalf of Russian special services. It regards beatings, arson, and attempted arson,” the Polish Prime Minister said.
Tusk said that his country is working together with its neighbors and allies to counter Russian intelligence activities.
“I am very pleased with the efficiency of our services,” he added.
Poland is actively working on identifying and countering Russian intelligence networks in its country, as it has become the main hub and place of concentration of military equipment and weapons before they are transferred to Ukraine.
Last year, Poland’s Internal Security Agency conducted a large-scale operation and detained sixteen people who were linked to Russian intelligence, collected data on the movement of military equipment, and prepared sabotage to disrupt supplies.
In January of this year, the Internal Security Agency launched an investigation into the pro-Russian association “Bronimi Munduru dla przyszłych pokoleń” (“Let’s protect the form for future generations”) on suspicion of recruiting Polish military personnel.
The prosecution against the association’s members is based on the assertion that in 2021, the organization was actively preparing with the objective “to deprive independence, separate a part of the territory, or alter the constitutional order of the Republic of Poland through coordinated actions by individuals.” This information is derived from the ongoing investigation’s unresolved materials.
In addition, in the same year, members of the association allegedly participated in “foreign intelligence activities against the Republic of Poland.”
