The Philippine Air Force received another early warning radar from Japan.
This was reported on the Philippine Air Force’s official website.
The official ceremony took place at the General Emilio Aguinaldo camp, where the TPS-P14ME long-range detection radar station donated by Japan was officially accepted into the Air Force.
The mobile radar is mounted on the basis of the Mitsubishi Fuso Super Great truck, which provides the ability to quickly deploy to priority areas.
This station is being procured as part of the AFP Modernization Horizon 2 program to modernize the Philippine Air Force’s early warning systems.
Within this program, the country signed a contract with the Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric Corporation to purchase four radar stations.
The contract is primarily designed for three stationary radar stations for early FPS-3ME detection and one TPS-14ME with the possibility of an option for an additional three radars.
The total cost of ordering these four radars from Japan was $103.5 million (5.5 billion Philippine pesos).
This export contract for Japan was enabled due to revised export laws in 2014, which allowed non-combat products to be exported within the framework of joint defense in the region.
Militarnyi previously reported that in December 2023, the Philippines put the first new FPS-3ME radar for controlling airspace.
The Philippine Defense Ministry sent the contract award notice to the Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in March 2020.
Production of the first stationary radar ended in September 2022, and in early October, the Japanese Air Self-Defense Forces trained a group of military personnel to use the station.
