The Pentagon has asked the White House to approve a request to Congress for more than $200 billion to continue the war against Iran.
According to The Washington Post, citing senior U.S. officials, the money would be used to quickly boost production of critical weapons.
This is needed to replenish stockpiles used by U.S. and Israeli forces during strikes on thousands of Iranian targets over the past three weeks.
However, some officials in the U.S. administration doubt that Congress will approve such a large funding request.
Experts also point to the limited capacity of U.S. industry to quickly ramp up production due to labor shortages and a lack of critical materials.
According to many officials, the cost of the war in Iran has risen sharply, exceeding $11 billion in the first week alone.
Meanwhile, the estimate did not include expenses such as the buildup of military personnel and equipment prior to the initial strikes.
Shortly after the start of the joint U.S.-Israeli military operation against Iran in late February, the White House began preparing an additional funding request to help cover the costs.
According to U.S. media reports, the first wave of bombings included AGM-154 JSOW air-to-surface bombs, each costing between $578,000 and $836,000.
This list also included modified Tomahawk cruise missiles and modern interceptor missiles for air defense systems that protect U.S. bases in the Middle East.
Later, U.S. military command announced a shift to using much cheaper weapons.
