The Ukrainian company PARS presented the Chumak 120mm towed mortar at the defense exhibition.
The company’s representatives told Militarnyi correspondents about the details of the new development at the Defense Tech Innovation Forum 2025.
According to the developers, the mortar is made in a towed version due to the increasing activity of Russian drones and counter-battery fire, so the main idea behind its development was to reduce the time for deployment and retraction.
Thus, the declared deployment and stowage time is less than 1 minute, and the automatic calculation of firing and targeting parameters is up to 30 seconds.
Despite such a high targeting speed, the increased accuracy and efficiency of the ammunition became possible due to the high accuracy of targeting and automatic calculation, taking into account meteorological and other corrections, by a ballistic algorithm developed by the PARS design bureau.
The calculations are performed by an online system that solves the differential equations of the mine’s flight, taking into account all the previously entered firing parameters. This algorithm has proven itself to date, as it has been used to calculate firing tables for new mortars and mines.
The developers also emphasize the availability of electronics, drives and installation features, which, according to them, improves accuracy by at least two times compared to analog means, such as the MPM-44 in combination with the PAB-2.
While the above-mentioned optical systems have an error of more than 6 mils, the Chumak trailer mortar systems do not, with the smallest angle error.
The developers also note that an important advantage of the mortar system is the use of barrels from different manufacturers by installing the barrel in the guides of the installation through couplings.
In addition to the aforementioned advantages, the Chumak mortar system is much cheaper than foreign models, and the trailer version makes it easier to operate without specialized vehicles.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that Ukrainian developers from Pars had presented a model of the Trembita cruise missile with a range of up to 150 kilometers at the defense exhibition.
According to the developers, the new missile in the strike version will be equipped with a warhead weighing 20 kilograms and will be able to hit targets at a depth of 150-160 kilometers. With such parameters, the missile can reach a speed of up to 110 meters per second, which is almost 400 km/h.
