Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has admitted the incursion of Hungarian drones into Ukraine and said that “2-3 Hungarian drones are not something that Ukraine should be concerned about.”
He said this in the podcast Harcosok órája.
According to him, Hungary has no intention of attacking Ukraine, and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky “needs to worry more about the situation in the east.”
“The question is not whether two, three or four Hungarian drones flew over or not. Let’s say they flew a few meters there, and then what?” the Hungarian prime minister said.
Orban also asked rhetorically what Russia could be spying on with the help of Hungarian drones in Zakarpattia, if the front line is in eastern Ukraine.
“It lost a fifth of its territory in the war with the Russians, and its sovereignty ended there. Do we hold the rest of the territory? We need to take it more seriously, 2-3 Hungarian drones are not something that Ukraine should be concerned about: these are not its enemies,” he said.
On September 26, the Ukrainian military spotted an intrusion of unidentified drones from Hungary, which were reconnoitering facilities in the border areas.
According to the military, in the morning of September 26, radar detected an aircraft flying over the territory of Zakarpattia region at different altitudes. It was identified as a drone. The UAV violated the state border of Ukraine twice from Hungary.
Once, the drone crossed the border of Ukraine for several minutes without entering the country. The second time, the drone flew more than 25 kilometers from the border and conducted reconnaissance east of Uzhhorod.
To neutralize the potential threat, the Defense Forces of Ukraine patrolled the airspace near Uzhhorod using a Chaklun-KM drone of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the drone was preliminarily used to reconnoiter the industrial potential of Ukraine’s border regions.
The next day, September 27, Russia and Hungary launched a disinformation campaign to justify drone strikes on targets in Romania and Poland: allegedly, Ukraine is preparing to launch repaired Russian drones at targets in Poland and Romania to “draw NATO into the war.”
