Journalists identified dozens of Russian soldiers who killed civilians in Bucha.
A video of the journalist investigation is shared on the The New York Times website.
The NYT identified the military 234th Air Assault Brigade of the Russian Federation.
Civilians were killed on Yablonska Street during the temporary occupation of Bucha in the Kyiv region in March 2022.
The NYT analyzed phone records, documents, eyewitness interviews and thousands of hours of video footage showing that a Russian amphibious regiment was involved in the killing of dozens of civilians. Their bodies were found in houses, basements and on the streets of Bucha.
Journalists claim that the Russian military took phones from the victims and used them to make phone calls to Russia. Some calls were tracked.
Furthermore, Pskov regiment equipment was discovered in areas where civilians were shelled.
According to the media, during the retreat from Bucha, the unit left some documentation and personal records.
One of the records indicated the number of the military unit of the Pskov paratroopers – military unit #74268. The regiment’s sleeve patches were also found.
A Russian military officer who looked like Artem Gorodilov, Colonel of the Pskov Air Assault Regiment was also spotted In Bucha. The video showcased him walking with security guards on Bucha between the bodies of the killed civilians. Shortly before the full-scale Russian invasion, Gorodilov was in Belarus.
In total, the NYT identified 22 paratroopers of the Pskov regiment who called in Russia from Bucha.
The journalists also managed to identify 36 killed civilians on Yablonska Street. The media published a map of the bodies discovered in the Bucha. At the same time, it is noted that journalists do not know who exactly from the identified Russian military shot at. The results of this journalist investigation are planned to be added to the materials for international courts on Russian war crimes.
