Norway will send two F-16 fighter jets to Denmark to contribute to the training of Ukrainian pilots.

Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram announced this.

“Norway will send two F-16 fighter jets to Denmark to contribute to the training of Ukrainian pilots on the use of the U.S.-made airplane,” the statement said.

Last year, Norway announced that it would join Denmark, the Netherlands, and other countries in providing fighter jets for Ukraine’s needs.

Previously, Norway had already deployed 10 instructors to Denmark to train Ukrainian pilots, Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram reported.

According to the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, there could be about five to ten fighter jets for Ukraine.

This regards 12 aircraft that the American company Draken International was preparing for sale.

The purchased F-16s were to be used as the “Aggressor” side in US air exercises. It can be assumed that the deal was canceled.

Norway decommissioned its F-16s in January 2022, and in November of the same year, Romania and Norway signed a €388 million deal to sell 32 fighter jets.

Norway has received about 60 F-16As and 14 F-16Bs during the entire period of operation. The exact number of aircraft remaining at Norway’s disposal after the decommissioning and selling of part of the Romanian fleet is unknown.

It is known for certain that the fighter jets purchased by Romania have the M6.5.2 upgrade package under the MLU program.

This means that the fighter jets can use a wide range of different missile and bomb weapons and have updated avionics.
