The Norwegian government will allocate $92 million to support Ukraine’s air defense.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced this.
The Prime Minister announced the allocation of the financial package at the NATO summit in Washington, DC.
He also noted that Ukraine would receive even more assistance from Norway in fighting the Russian invaders.
The Minister stressed that the $92 million will be used to support the German air defense initiative to deliver a full-fledged IRIS-T SL battery to Ukraine as soon as possible.
According to him, the delivery of this battery is expected in the fall of 2024.
“The brutal attacks we saw last week show why it is so important for Ukrainians to have more protection from Russian air attacks,” Støre said.
The financial package, announced as part of the German air defense initiative, came a day after the Norwegian government announced the donation of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
In total, Norway will donate six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
The government shared that this number is due to the fact that Norway wants to provide Ukraine with combat-capable aircraft.
Militarny previously reported that Norway would allocate a financial package to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and purchase 100 anti-aircraft missiles for Patriot systems.
