The Norwegian Ministry of Defense appealed to the country’s General Staff with a request to consider the possibility of transferring CV90 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine.
Norwegian TV 2 media reported this.
The Ministry of Defense told the newspaper that the government plans to make a greater contribution to military aid to Ukraine and is constantly evaluating whether Norway should send more weapons and military equipment to Ukraine.
“The government is constantly considering whether Norway should send more weapons to Ukraine. We do not comment on these assessments and any current or future contributions. We have a good dialogue with Ukraine and the allies on the needs. We will support Ukraine as long as it is needed,” Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram shared with TV 2.
The CV 9030N (Strf 9030) is an export version of the CV90 family of combat vehicles developed by the BAE Systems and Bofors consortium for the Norwegian Armed Forces. The country’s army currently has 164 of these IFVs.
The combat vehicle was adopted with the Strf 9030 index. This is the Norwegian version of the first generation CV90 IFV, known as the CV90 Mk I.
For the export contract, the fighting vehicle was armed with the Bushmaster II 30mm automatic gun instead of the standard Bofors L/70 40mm autocannon.
Besides, the CV 9030N differs from the Swedish CV 90 by a more powerful engine with a 605 hp capacity and an additional hatch of the landing commander on the right side in the aft part of the IFV.
The vehicle’s protection allows withstanding hits of 30mm shells.
Norway upgraded some of its CV9030N infantry fighting vehicles to CV90 Mk IIIb levels. This is the most advanced option currently in service.
The Mk III CV90 version is a further development of the CV90 Mk II IFV, which has improved electronic systems, survivability, and mobility.
CV 9030N electronic architecture updates in the Mk III version made it fully digital. The mobility of the combat vehicle was improved by the improved suspension. After the modernization of the BMP, the ratio of its power to weight changed. The vehicle’s armor was strengthened in the mine protection areas and the upper hemisphere, and the horizontal protection was improved by an additional modular armor protection system.
