Norway transferred 14 IVECO LAV III armored patrol vehicles to Ukraine.
This was reported on the Norwegian government website.
These vehicles have good mobility and protection. It’s the same type used by the Norwegian forces in Afghanistan, the report said.
The government noted that armored vehicles are in demand by the Ukrainian authorities and are supplied in addition to other military equipment, such as artillery, portable air defense (MANPADS), and armored personnel carriers transferred to Ukraine from Norway earlier.
“Norway continues to contribute to the Ukrainian fight for freedom. The government is constantly assessing how Norway can provide further support to Ukraine in protecting the country from Russian invasion,” said Björn Arild Gram, Norwegian Defense Minister.
The donated vehicles are a variant of the Iveco LMV – an army multi-purpose SUV with an armored hull. The weight of the vehicle in the basic configuration is 7 tons, the maximum speed is 130 km/h, the range is 600 km. As of 2016, the Norwegian Armed Forces had 170 IVECO LAVs in various modifications.
In early June Ukraine received 22 155mm M109A3GN ACSs from Norway.
In addition to self-propelled howitzers, the aid package also includes equipment, spare parts, and artillery ammunition.
Norway also trained Ukrainian servicemen on how to use this artillery system. The training took place in Germany.
Subsequently, the UK and Norway agreed to transfer M270 MLRS to Ukraine.
Previously, the office of the German government, together with the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, found a manufacturer that can produce ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery systems supplied to Ukraine.
This month, Norway launched a fundraising campaign to buy the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 strike drone for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
