Norway has allocated about €60 million (NOK 700 million) for the purchase of drones for Ukraine.
This is stated on the website of the Norwegian government.
The statement was made by Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram during a meeting in Ramstein.
“Ukraine continues to experience an urgent need for additional military equipment to protect itself from Russian aggression. Drones are an important part of this effort, both for the protection of critical infrastructure and for use on the front line,” Gram stated.
The Norwegian defense minister also emphasized the importance of coalitions working to provide both short- and long-term support for Ukraine.
“Together with our allies, we will continue our political, military and economic support for Ukraine’s defense efforts,” the Norwegian defense official emphasized.
The government stated that an independent and free Ukraine, which has the freedom to determine its own foreign and defense policy, is essential for European and Norwegian security.
On December 16, it was reported that Norway has allocated a new military assistance package aimed at strengthening the Ukrainian Navy.
The country has provided €230 million. The funding will be used to protect people in Ukraine from attacks, support demining efforts, and train Ukrainian soldiers.
The support includes the transfer of equipment directly from the Norwegian Armed Forces, as well as the purchase of military equipment from industry for further transfer.
Part of the funds will be used to provide systems for demining operations in Ukraine’s territorial waters.
A significant part of the funding will be directed to efforts related to innovation and autonomy of maritime capabilities within the Maritime Coalition.
